Your Favorite Reds

As has come the wine club tradition here in Winston-Salem, every December we celebrate with everyone bringing their favorite red wines (could be a past club favorite or could be a personal fave). As always we brown bag them all, shuffle the mix and then letter the choices. For this special occasion, we also bring gifts for a white elephant gift exchange and we gather with the expectation of excellent wines and thus, more drinking than the average Monday night wine club. For this reason, we made a conscious decision to move our tasting event to a Friday night to allow for more festivity and enjoyment!

So, here is how the bottles broke down:

In order of drinking, not ranking:

2. Layer Cake, Shiraz, 2006, $18 (The Fresh Market) [#2 most loved wine]
3. Night Owl, Pinot Noir, 2005, $8 (SALE - SRP $17... bought at Wine Merchant's Gourmet)
4. La Crema, Pinot Noir, 2006, $20 (World Market)
5. Sin Zin, Zinfandel, 2005, $16 (Lowes Foods)
6. Windmill, Cabernet Sauvignon, 2004, $14 (Wine Merchant's Gourmet) [#1 wine]
   
7. Sobon Estates, Rocky Top Zinfandel, 2005, $17 (Total Wine)
8. Cotes du Rhone, $14 (City Beverage)

The wines were good and the gifts were ridiculous! Alex took home the bull for bringing the top wine of the night with Windmill Cab. But Aaron was a VERY close second with Layer Cake Shiraz... big, bold reds took the cake (no pun intended)!
