Misty Creek Merlot Wins Third Place in State Fair

If you don't go to Misty Creek for the wine, you have to at least go for the experience. The owners Barry and Marge Nichols will welcome you into their tasting room with open arms, tell you their story, and listen to yours with eager ears while you enjoy some of their wines. They had their first bottling this year, and are oh so excited to share their treasures with the world.

Misty Creek Uses Pure Grape Varietals

As of this writing, all of their wines are pure grape varietals. Their Cabernet Sauvignon is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, their Merlot is 100% Merlot, and so on. The Misty Creek 2006 Merlot won third place in the local state fair. And while it's quite tasty, it's the atmosphere - cozing by the large wood fireplace (which the owners invite you to tend to and have fun with - making you feel part of the family) that makes the wine taste oh so special. Barry himself is more fond of the Chambourcin - being a big fan of that varietal.

Misty Creek - A Warm Wine Tasting Experience

If we had written this review in the middle of our wonderful experience at Misty Creek, we may have well given it four starts - wooed by the lovely atmosphere. However, back at home, reality sets in. The Merlot, while quite tasty, and with a nice dry finish, has too many bright acidic tones to fall in line with our favorite Merlots. And given the price (note this is a tasting room price - that's usually as high as it gets), we're not sure this is one you need to stock up on.

That being said - the experience alone is well worth it. And yes, your wine will taste better thanks to the warm atmosphere and hospitality of Misty Creek and the Nichols' family Smiling
