HAPPY ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY TO THE WINE CLUB!!!
Thank you so much Susan and Aaron for "pinch hitting" for our scheduled
"runner... Cindy - hope you are feeling better and wish you the best....you
poor thing! Thank goodness it was not any of our cooking...
Bruno was the most wonderful host and a special thanks to B for convincing
Alex (aka DJ Schenkalicious) that we need another pup!
So, here are the wine's from tonight which did remarkably well across the
board - go Spanish Riojas! (these are in order of serving, not preference
but A was the best if I do say so myself!)
A - Lan, Crianza 2003 ($11 Harris Teeter)
B - Cune, Crianza 2003 ($12 Total Wine)
C - Castillo Labastida, Reserva 1999 ($20 Wine Merchants Gourmet)
D - Castillo D Clavijo, Crianza 2003 ($9 Total Wine)
E - Castillo Labastida, 2002 ($14 Wine Merchants Gourmet)
F - Berberana Marino Tinto, [year unknown] ($6 Total Wine)
NON-RIOJA/SPAIN ALERT: G - Jacob's Creek, Reserve, 2002 CABERNET SAUVIGNON,
South Australia ($11)
There was not a resounding favorite amongst the group but A, D and E all
seemed to be highly requested for seconds after the initial tasting round
and were gone at the end of the evening. The last remaining... F... poor F.

My favorites were...
A - Lan, Crianza 2003 ($11 Harris Teeter)
D - Castillo D Clavijo, Crianza 2003 ($9 Total Wine)
In re-tasting Riojas recently around some of my current favorites - Zinfandels and Syrahs - I realize that I do not really enjoy Rioja as much as I once thought... not as smooth and rich as the wines I am loving right now... sorry Rioja.
