Practice this on your own before performing it in front of your guests. Hold the stem of a glass like you would a pen - between your thumb, index, and middle fingers. You want to avoid touching the bowl of the glass (the part above the stem) to keep from warming the wine and leaving fingerprints everywhere). On the other hand, if your wine is served too cold, this is a good way to warm it back up to a normal temperature. Finally, you'll want to perfect the swirl. This simply involves swirling the glass in concentric circles on the table - start out small and go bigger until the wine is swirling around the bowl (without splashing over the sides). Once you have a rhythm you should be able to maintain the swirl with little effort. This will release the wine's aromas, which will play a large part in your perception of the wine's taste.
